Cabaret is an inexpensive, casual, and fun evening out

Board members for Columbus' Stonewall Union, led by a committee of five board members headed by Anne Santilli, will host a night to remember, Saturday, September 16.

"A Night Out" will offer a cabaret-style evening beginning at 7:00

pm at the Function Factory at 401 W. Town St. in Columbus. The special night will include a silent auction with hors d'oeuvres until 8:00 pm, buffet dinner from 8:00 pm to 9:00 pm, with the entertainment and awards beginning officially at 9:00 pm. Desserts and coffee will be served until 10:00 pm throughout the program. The cost of the "absolutely casual" tax-deductable ticket is $35.

and think 'dress-up, cliquish, overpriced bore.' Most folks cannot afford to spend over $150 each for a night out to support any cause. While we cannot afford to take the focus off of the fundraising aspect of this function, we don't want to miss the chance to communicate, celebrate, and have fun."

"This year, Santilli continued, "we are planning an upbeat, accessible, casual, and affordable opportunity for anyone interested in the Stonewall mission. We hope in this way, more people will want to and be able to attend, and as result, we all make huge strides toward our goals.” We will have music, celebrations, and entertainment.

Major awards will be given to the Honorable Yvette McGee Brown, Kaleidoscope Youth Coalition, the First Baptist Church of Granville, and other surprise awards to be announced the night of the benefit.

Ticket prices for A Night Out were reduced from $50 to $35 dollars to accomodate more members of the community. Executive director Phil Martin said, “It is crucial to all of us on the board and the staff that the community knows the full extent of services provided by Stonewall and that those services will continue. Those services cannot continue without the dollar support. So, with this event, we are hoping for both good strong ticket sales and for that chance to

ENDA workshop

On July 17, Stonewall hosted a presentation on the federal Employment Non-Discrimination Act. The basics of the legislation were covered, which includes job discrimination protection for persons working at companies employing more than 50 people. The pros and cons of the legislation were presented, and a lively discussion followed on whether or not to support the bill. It was an enlightening session, and a successful start to our monthly discussion group.

House bill 89 workshop

The topic of second discussion group meeting held on August 21 was Ohio House Bill 89. A presentation was made by John Corlett of Planned Parenthood on the specifics of the bill and its chance for passage.
